Hello, I was contemplating upgrading my processor but I'm not completely sure if the processor I want to upgrade to is compatible with my current system. My current processor specs are amd phenom 9500 quad core 2.2 ghz, package socket amd2 + (940), core voltage 1.248v. The processor I want to upgrade to is AMD Phenom 9950 Agena 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor - Retail.

OR
Does anybody know a better processor than the 9950 to upgrade to from the 9500? I usually use my computer for intense gaming or video.

EDIT:
Motherboard specs: Motherboard manufacturer is ecs, the chipset is nvidia, and the model = mcp61pm-gm 2.1

According to my support docs this is the processor support, Processor Support Supports AMD® AM2 Socket K8 Athlon™ 64 X2, Athlon™ 64, Athlon™ FX, and Sempron™ processors under 89 watt power consumption

Your intended new CPU seems to be text in the form of a possible web link, rather than a name/model number. :)

It would help if you could list your motherboard name and model because for one thing it might not support a high watt cpu and you might be able to get a phenom II.

okay, Motherboard manufacturer is ecs, the chipset is nvidia, and the model = mcp61pm-gm 2.1

Wll to be honest the only one I found close to yours is a GeForce6100PM. Has the same chipset but I can't find your model on the ECS website. The other one I found close to yours has support for up to the 9750 Phenom.

So unless you can find it on their site (or someone else can) I think the 9750 would be the best you can do.

Yeah, I was just looking for it on their website and I couldn't find it either, weird.

I even tried to do a google search and ended up with forum questions about your mobo but no results.

D:, I just looked at the motherboard and "mcp61pm-gm" is definitely the model. I think I'll try contacting ecs and asking them what kind of processor the motherboard would support.

You list that in your support dock your motherboard can only handle up to an 89W processor. I doubt it'll handle any of the 125W processors. Which the 9850 and 9950 are both 125W.

I'm not sure what that means because I'm pretty sure the amd phenom 9500 quad core I have now is 100 w or something like that, but you're probably right. Thanks for your input.
