Hi

I am buying a new PC and would like it to be good for gaming as well. I am not in vdo editing, only general usage, music and vdo burning, and gaming. I am not really expert about this but have been reseaching information.

Now I have come down to two options between getting a PC built on Core 2 Duo E8500 with ATI HD 4870, 3gb DDR2 and Windows XP professional

or

Core i7 2.66 with ATI HD 4870 Vista Home premium 64 bit - 6gb DDR3

I am confused as to which one would be good. I can see that i7 can be around $200 more in total.

please advise your thought

thank you

Either one will work fine. Don't know who is building your machine, but dell has some pretty inexpensive options. They have a vostro 220 with monitor for as little as $420, or a core i7 build for around $1000. You can change out the power supply and video card yourself, and you may still save some money. The current dell specials are usually listed at fatwallet.com. I bought my compaq dirt cheap and changed out the board, power supply, and cpu and have some good spare parts.

No comparison. The i7 would blow the E8500 machine out of the water in everything.

even though E8500 runs on XP??

I am sorry if it's silly question but I am beginner....

I checked on Dell but the cheap i7 set has custom made motherboard that cannot be overclocked and only support single VDO card.
