Right now, Im planning on getting the ASUS Maximus II Formula mobo.... is this a good choice with the video card Im getting. Nvidia GTX 260 Core 216... possibly running in SLI in the future... no time soon though.

And what size power supply will I need....

Specs:

Antec 1200.. putting 2 extra fans in it.

GTX 260 Core 216 (896mb)

ASUS Maximus II Formula

E8500 3.16ghz

Corsair Dominator (2x2gig)

HT Omega Striker sound card... (is the sound card that comes with the MOBO any good? It'd save me about $80 if it is)

2 hard drive cooler fans

and ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 CPU cooler....

What PSU will cover this with ease? Is a 1000watt overkill?

Thanks

The Maximus II formula is a crossfire board and as such does not support SLI.

The only SLI board I would recommend right now are the new x58 boards. They support both crossfire and SLI, but of course you then have to buy the i7 and the DDR3... so it's a bit too pricey still.

My advice would be to get a bit less MB... P5Q-E for instance:

Or, alternately, an x38 board:

This is likely the best 4870 made. I have the OCed 512MB version, and it rocks hard:

Yes 1000W is overkill for two 4870s.. not huge overkill.

You can get by with a Corsair 750TX:

Or PC P&C:

The $40 combo discount with your case makes this a decent selection. Antec Signature really is that good. They don't ship with a little "inspected by" tag. They arrive with an actual inspection checklist. Seriously, the finest PSU you can buy in the USA... and the others I listed are pretty damn nice.

For more info please have a look at my guide and parts list. I hit on the main points but you might want to change up your RAM and CPU cooler:

I don't want to go with a 790I or DDR3 yet, too pricey for me and the i7... lol no way right now.

so a 750watt PSU will do? That corsair one is the one I had first picked but then saw a 1000watt just to be safe.

What about the EVGA 780i FTW? I want a good MOBO that will be good for overclocking & good for gaming but under $300

A P45 board will be the best overclocker, like the one I listed, ot this one:
UD3P
It will also be the most stable.

Take the money you are saving by not buying an overpriced board that will do nothing for you, and put it into a better GPU.
