I have an old AGP system that lost it's video card. The motherboard is an AGP x1/x2 slotted board, but those cards are no longer available. I do see on New Egg some video cards that are apparently universal AGP cards in that they are slotted for both 3.3 and 1.5 AGP boards. Would one of these cards work for me? Thanks.

There are some that will work. The 9700pro is one such card, 2x/4x/8x compatible. IIRC, as long as its notched at the front end of the card, you should be ok. (front being the place where you plug in the monitor.) What card are you looking at getting?

Here's the card I am thinking of buying, something inexpensive.

It is dual notched so am I correct in assuming it will work with 1.5v and 3.3v AGP motherboards? The motherboard I have is an old Asus P3B-F, with a 600MHz Pentium III processor and 512MB RAM. This is just an old system for my kids to play old games on. Would I be better off getting a PCI video card or would those be too slow for the 3D games my kids play? Here's the PCI card that looks good to me:

Thanks again for the help.

It has the correct front notch, but it doesn't say 2x compatible. You need to find an old 2x/4x card. (unless someone says you can run a 5200 on a 2x board.) Seeing as its not the main rig, I'd hit up Ebay/craigs list and see if you can't find an old card thats better suited for this computer.

According to Wikipedia the Nvidia FX series was the last to support 3.3v and 1.5v in the same card; See here under `compatability`:

AGP will be faster than PCI and, if any doubt, try calling The Egg for more info.
