Hi guys.

This might be a dumb question but I'm really having difficulties removing the stock cooler from my graphics card. I just unscrewed 4 screws on the backside of the card but I just cant get the Zalman stock cooler off. It seems I need to put quite much strength in to it to get anything loose. I can't think of any other screws I could remove...

Is there a certain technique to it or should I just jerk it off and wish that nothing breaks ? Im trying to replace it with Accelero Twin turbo.

I've found lotsa Youtube videos of installing TT, but none of them show how to remove that damn stock cooler , which seems to be the hard part. :P

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

i believe the general technique is to wiggle it whilst very slowly and gently rotating clockwise anticlockwise to free it, your trying to break the seal whilst not breaking it in two.

can you see any clips or anything other attachments?

whats the zalman cooler like anyway? should be pretty quiet.

was just thinking - is it possible to post a good picture of the back and front of the card?

from these two pics, compare it to the one in your hands. from these pics i can see twelve possible screw holes, no screws should be still showing on the back of your card before its ready to start removing the cooler.

i have seen a pic of another gigabyte 4850 that had 8 screws securing the back so just removing the first 4 isnt enough.

Thanks for the help , that rotating motion did the trick! It went kinda smooth although the cooler was in there pretty tight.

I don't have a camera so I can't take any pictures, but that's the exact model I have:

The cooler is being held in place with only 4 screws like I thought it would. The Zalman isn't as quiet as I expected, it clearly was the most loud component inside my case. The real reason for switching to Accelero TT was that I snapped one of the rotors off the Zalman by accident this morning :/

It's noticeable quieter now with the TT.

Thanks for your time Montyuk!
