I just bought a 24' dell on sale for $530 total an a EVGA GTX 280 $330 total, did i get a good deal?.Im worry that my current amd 4800 x2 939 socket an 2gb ram will bottleneck my new GPU. My rig is for gaming mostly.
Should I invest now on new platform or wait for phenom 2?

Your X2 is most DEFINITELY going to be a massive bottleneck for a GTX280, hell, a C2D E8600 is a bottleneck for that card to some extent.

Not sure on your 24'' model, but I bought mine for 290$, but it's a 2ms TN-panel, so lower quality in terms of viewing angle & color reproduction, but it's insane for games.

if you are upgrading get an i7, barebone kits are like 700 bucks. the price on the 280 is nice. My socket 939 is still kicking, I just restrict myself too DX9 games.

I have a dell 2407wfp-hc
I'm still on a AMD X2 3800+ 2.0GHz Socket 939
I also run 2 gb DDr and a 3850. I consider myself a pretty heavy gamer with most valve titles, Crysis, Far Cry 2, and others. I manage to get by well but I agree, its about time to upgrade. i7 is looking tempting for me.

You just dropped $860 on a monitor and a video card, and for some reason your sticking with a S939 computer? Somethings not right here.... $330 for the GTX280 isn't bad, but its hard to tell with Nvidia's screwed up pricing policy. (can't tell the price until you add it to the cart.) The 4850x2 is under $300 on newegg right now, so you probably spent a bit to much. I don't know what you had for a monitor before this, but I probably would have dropped the money on a new computer. ~$900 would have got you a modern dual core, one that wouldn't have bottlenecked that GTX280 that much.

I'd guesstimate that you'd probably not want to run more than a single HD 4850 at 1920x1200/1080 on a s939 board with an X2-4800+ processor. I've pretty much maxed out my graphics card (meaning it wouldn't be worth it to get anything better) with the 8800GTS-640 in my system with the same processor at 1680x1050.

I would definitely start looking at a system refresh. If you can afford the Core I7 now, then go ahead and get it now. If not, wait until you see performance benchmarks of the PhenomII and then decide what you want/can afford.
