Thx for ur help before guys, about the suggestions on 30 inches

Now i need help for GPU suggestions and my OCD doesnt help. So a definitive answer from u guys would help.

The workstations are running 1 19"/22" (have extras on hand now) and a 30". Its mainly for image viewing of x-rays/CTs...radiologist stuff.
So ive limited my search down to either:
1 GB 4850 This one
4870 1GB Sapphire
and possibly a 4850x2 because ATI completely dropped their prices ($280 after mir) which seems good.

Now i kno 1GB is good for gaming at high res, but would it also be good in general. If not, then i can do regular 512 mb.

Thx for ur help guys

On a 30", you want the 4870 1Gb. The extra VRAM really helps at the high res, and the 4850 1GB doesn't have the memory bandwidth to truly take advantage of it like the 4870.

EDIT: just noticed that this might not be for gaming. If it isn't for gaming, you don't need anything close to that power. Go with something like a 4670 or similar.

in 2d it doesn't really matter which one you get, the 4850 should be fine. or even the new 4830s out there right now should be more than enough for looking digital radiology.

High res image viewing takes basically no GPU power. Something like a 4650 or 4670 is more than adequate.

awww u guys just ruin my fun :(

What if u had a $2000+ budget, would u grab a 4850/70?
I mean this is all covered so whatever i put in doesnt really matter

Honestly, it depends on what the machine was used for. For a Matlab machine, I'd blow a ton on a really fast CPU for example.

why get a 30" my 10 inchers fine as it is.

Get a 4870X2 on the work budget. Buy a cheap 4830 yourself. Swap them over. No-one will ever know.

+1

i would invest in more ram and a water cooling system personally.

edit: although i do have a 4850 and that combined with an after market heat sink (stock heatsinks allow 0 overclocking ability) it dominates everything i've thrown at it. if you wanna save some $$ maybe try a 4850 or even a 4830 and see how that works. if you need more you can always crossfire.

Well ill see if i get "benefits" for lower costs... ;)

H2O is for my system...too much work for a system like theres.
Ram is 4 GB and its XP Pro (non 64) due to software problems, so more doesnt matter. Id OC the proc, but ive been told not to do it :(

As long as u guys say there will be no difference in performance really between them all.
My dad's has 2 9800GTX+s for the 3 monitors, but going to 2 and i was going to sell them to friends and buy another more powerful card...whatever i think i need to talk with them :heink:
