I'm in the middle of a build right now and I'm stumped by the mother board mounting holes. I'm wondering if i can use screws to install to the standoffs without washers. the mobo and case did not come with washers, and the mounting holes are surrounded by metal bumps. my mother board is a gigabyte ga-ma770-ud3

and also the manual says nothing about this.

I have never used washers. You just have to make sure your screw head is larger than the hole on the motherboard so it doesn't go through the hole.

You don't need washers anymore. As long as the brass mounts and screws are under the correct mobo holes, you'll be fine.

DO NOT use washers - notice the radially oriented solder pads surrounding the mounting holes? These are for good contact; the mounting hole contacts are an integral part of the MOBO's grounding system - defeating it with washers will lead to intermittent, wierd, hard to troubleshoot problems...
