was trying to run the scan disk check on one of the
workstation (Dell 2.53 GHZ). I selected C and D partitions
for the scan disk check and rebooted the system so that it
could start scan disk check. But after the windows XP logo
the screen of the monitor went blank (LED was still green)
and I thought nothing was going on. I had to hard restart
the Dell PC and I did the same thing again and faced the
same problem.
Called the uptime center and came to know that when screen
goes blank, the scan disk check is running in the back
ground, so don't do anything just wait for approximately
20-30 minutes and the DELL PC will boot up after the scan
disk check. I did the same thing and it worked for me. I
saw this problem on 3 Dell based workstations. I think
only new Dell PCs have this kind of behavior, having
windows XP on it.
Wouldn't it be nice if we may get some kind of text
message on the screen? rather having a total blank screen.

It most certainly would and what you describe is not normal behavior for
other computers with XP. I have no idea why it happens on the Dell systems
you describe but it must have something to do with their setup since Dell
Tech Support gave you this information.
