HI, I just got this motherboard and need some advice.
I am trying to use it with an older power supply a Logisys 550W LED Acrylic PSU (in acrylic case), but I am concerned this power supply cannot handle this motherboard!
Firestly, the PSU only has 4-pin ATX power to the CPU, where the board has 8-pin connection. I read in the manual that it would work with 2x2 and 2x4 ATX power, so I tried my PSU to see what happened and it just will not finish POST.
For the record, I am not using any graphics cards or other intense power using devices, just board, cpu, ram, optical, and hdd with just a couple lights and fan.
Can I resolve this issue with an adapter which takes normal 4 pin power and converts it to 8-pin ATX?
Do I just need a new power supply to POST?
Is my board DOA?
I really hate to buy something to SEE if it will work, like if I buy a power supply to find out the board is DOA. anyone know whats up?
What CPU do you have? Whether or not the 8x power connector is needed depends upon the CPU used... A 4x-8x adaptor may work, again, depends on the CPU and the power available on the PSU rail; meantime, I will try to find your PSU's specs...
I contacted Gigabyte about this and they told me that the 4-pin plug should get the computer going if it is 550W.
I am concerned that even though my PSU is 550W, it might be a weak PSU anyway. I only have it because it is acrylic, it might not be powerful enough for these new boards.
