Any parts that will be recycled? Will you need a OS? Monitor?

I think it's possible. But definitely helps if you have parts you can reuse.

If you need an os and monitor it becomes pretty hard and not a very good value for your money. If not check out system builder marathon $500 article.

That is a Good Case as well.
I used it for my last build and got it for about that price.
(Did not neet it when I bought it, but could not pass the deal.)

BTW, you can get the SONATA III for $45 shipeed with a code I just found (No Rebate)
I just picked one up even though I dont need it.

But both those cases would be nice, especially in the $500 budget range.

They are similar, but I would go for the E7300 if the price is very close.
I think the E7300 may be a newer stepping, but not very sure of that.

Nice thread... It is a real shame tomshardware doesn't have any articles for at 500$ gaming build...

This is the best anyone can do. IMO of course :)

MB: GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L $85

Proc: Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz $76

GFX: ASUS Radeon HD 4830 $120 ($100 AR)

Mem: OCZ SLI-Ready Edition (2 x 2GB)DDR2 800 $52 ($27 AR)

DVD: LITE-ON Black Dvdrw $22

HD: WD Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS $60

Case: Antec Sonata III w/ 500w PS $75

That all comes to $490 ($445 AR) All these are free shipping items when I wrote this up as well, so thats already taken into account.

HGGANTEC30 is the code for another $30 off the Sonata III.
That would let you toss in the 4850 over the 4830.......
