the HD 2600 would be significantly faster.
It has GDDR3 memory which is miles ahead the the DDR2 that is in the 9400. That card is meant to speed up vista and watch movies, not play games. If fact, the 2600 is about equal to the 9500GT. So, the 9400 would be a significant downgrade bro.

we can recommend other graphics cards if you want. The next step up from the 2600 pro would be the ATI 4670 which is relatively cheap nowadays.

well, it wouldnt be a downgrade, i dont have the 2600, but my friend does

i cant really afford much, but i would be correct in assuming the 9400 would be a significant increase on my current card, which is the integrated intel extreme 128mb in my motherboard, right?

Kinda. In a way that movies and video would look better and play better. Games would still be out of the question.
The HD2600 on the other hand is still a fairly capable gaming card and i would recommend that over the 9400.

Sure it would be a big increase, but do you really want to spend money to go from 4 fps to 7 fps? It's up to you, but I would say spend a few bucks more and go with a cheap 9500GT.

get an overclocked card out of the box. DOnt buy a stock at that low price range.

wtf are you lot talking about. I have a 9400gt and i can play all my games in at least high. c&c 3, far cry 2, all the orange box games, left 4 dead, fallout 3 and i can even play crysis in medium. I have no idea where your getting your information from but it's wrong.

I am looking into the 9400gt PCI for my Stupid Dell E310, it would be a real upgrade form the built in card. plus The games i would play if i got the chance, wouldnt go higher than 1024x768... and I own the Orange box so knowing that that is all i need sounds good to me.
Unless there is a better Ati Solution?
