I/o error/parameter incorrect on external HDD

Having a problem with a western digital external hard drive. Basically I can't access. When I click on it I get either an i/o error or it says the parameter is incorrect. The drive appears in my computer. The drive spins up. I am unable to right click on it to perform chkdsk and when I do it through command i get a chkdsk error.

Any thoughts on a fix?

So i ran malware bytes on it and removed a bunch of stuff. I also ran a short smart scan which failed. I am in the process of running an extended smart scan now

Maybe try plugging it into another port?

get an open source format tool
since its open source, it can format things windows would say is an error
at least, i think it would work...
