I am soon buying all the parts for my new build, yet the store at which i wanted to buy my graphics card at is unable to order the Powercolor HD4870 1GB PCS+, so i started looking around and i noticed the gainward HD4870 1GB golden sample is similarly priced.

I checked out some reviews of the gainward card and it seems to perform quite wel. ( http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/11/18/gainward-radeon-hd-4870-1gb-golden-sample/1 )

I tried to search for previous posts, but none of them were still active. So if anyone here has any experience with either card i'll be glad to hear it.

Also another question I have, I'm not too experienced with power consumption of the GPU's. How much watt would the HD4870 demand at full load? I'm also planning on getting a X4 9950 BE which I will "try" to overlock to 3.0ghz. To power the build, I am getting the Xilence 600W Gaming edition ( http://www.xilence-lab.de/News-Details-Engl.19+M58f7c764d3e.0.html?&L=1 ) will this be sufficient? Besides the CPU and GPU i'm not getting any power hungry hardware.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I can't seem to edit the post. I found out that the gainward card uses ~300W, but i'm still curious to the combined demand @full load. I know the CPU is the 140W version, but I suppose this does not mean it requires 140W at full load? or is that exactly what it means? :S

Still can't edit my posts! ..... For the sake of comparison, according the specs the Powercolor PCS+ only reqs 148W? is this difference due to the double fans / bios? Seems odd for the GW card to demand 2x as much? I can't imagine the Powercolor specs being based on idle power consumption?

Anyhow for whoever decides to read this, I did some more googling ;) and I realized i'll go for the Powercolor HD4870 1GB PCS and not the PCS+, cooling for both is just about the same and the card is 20 bucks cheaper.

As far as I'm concerned this post can be removed.
