My computer do not want to start up with my hard drive in it, anyone know whats

my computer had a virus, because of the virus, my pc would log on and log off again. Now the IT guy says the problem lies with my hard drive and it cannot start up with my hard drive in it. How can this be possible? I knew about the virus that caused that i could not log in
