A single 8800GTX uses about 158 watts and 13 amps at load.

Two 8800GTX cards in SLI mode use about 243 watts and 20 amps at load.

I have not seen any amperage figures for three 8800GTX cards in tri-sli mode. However, at 70 amps the Corsair TX850 can easily handle the load. It is a high quality psu.

???

Your original question was about three 8800GTX video cards in Tri-SLI mode. You did not ask about four 8800GTX video cards in Quad-SLI mode.

Here you go:

http://web.aanet.com.au/SnooP/psucalc.php

Most video card manufacturers overestimate psu power requirements because they know some people will buy cheap, low quality power supplies. Most first time posters also overestimate their power requirements. In addition you do not have a lot of pc components.

Here's the source for the information I posted about two 8800GTX video cards in dual SLI mode:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-radeon-powe...

Although it is a brand new report, it does not provide information about tri or quad SLI requirements.

Here is a link to some actual test results for four 9800GTX2 video cards in quad SLI mode where the grand total for the entire pc system maxed out at 513 watts:

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/681/9/

Here's another test report:

http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=538&type=expert&pi...

It is difficult to find actual test results for four 8800GTX video cards in tri or quad SLI mode. Those cards are several years old. When they came out the big deal was two cards in dual SLI mode. That's why I posted the links to the results for four 9800GTX2 video cards in quad SLI mode.

Lists 8800Ultra Tri SLI at max is 496w considering the ultras are overclocked the Tri 8800GTX will be less than that.

Nvidia suggests 1000w psu to cover is a number of ways...

1. Thats a PSU for the whole system so takes into account running heaps of other hardware
2. Cheap PSUs , if they say 750w will handle it everyone goes out and buys a *noname brand PSU that doesnt give a quality 750w at good amperage and clean then everyone start suing them for saying it would work.

And the reason your cant find figures on 8800GTX in Quad SLI is because they cannot do it. Quad SLI can only be done with Dual core GPUs such as 9800GX2 (hence done with 2x9800GX2's).

In the end youll probably get more value out of 2 new GTX280's or getting a single GTX295.

chookman - Thanks for explaining why there is no 8800GTX in quad SLI. I learned something new!

No, they are not lying to you here or at the Corsair forum.

It will work why would we lie? Im running 2 gtx260 sli with only 500w when nvidia tells me i need 700w+.
If you dont believe us go waste money on a 1000w could care less.
