Will work with my motherboard?

Thank you for your help

Im pretty sure that chipset supports that cpu, but bios update might be required. Also, if i remember correctly tualatin p3 runs 133mhz fsb as opposed to coppermines 100, so you have to check your memory too(you will need 133mhz SDRAM). This is pretty old gear your asking about, i think your best option is to look for the info on compaq website.

Thanks

I can not find any information about my motherboard on the web.

I have 133 mhz memory. Maybe better for my old motherboard is a bit weaker processor.

INTEL PENTIUM III 1200 / 256 /133

This may be relevant?

Well its a very old machine and it will be hard to find info and updates. You should rather look by compaq model name and number, what is it, deskpro? You can also post a question on compaq support forum, its more likely someone there will know the answer.

I think the fastest Coppermine P3 was 1.13ghz, but there were issues with them. The faster Tualatins may require a BIOS update, but may not work just as well. Since they are very cheap u can take the risk and just try it.

Dont know really what else to suggest, maybe leave it and buy a new machine? :)

Sorry, cant really suggest anything other than buying a new system. If your really on a budget Ive seen Pentium 3's in local craigslists and classifieds for $50, a few for $25. You can get refurbished Dell Optiplex from tigerdirect for $130 which have Pentium 4's.

My main reason for posting is just to congradulate MaDMagik on his knowledge of ancient technology. Bravo.

the cost such an upgrade would be makes it not worth it. unless you can find a pentium 3 for under $10, you would be better off just buying a new computer.
