Can I do an xp to xp transfer using a Belkin Easy Transfer cable?

Yes, the transfer is possible, just make sure you do it right. Networking is more pain free though.

Being tech dumb and already having bought the cable, how does one "just make sure you do it right"? I have nominated one XP computer as the "old" computer, and when I try to nominate the second XP, it only gives me the option of nominating it as the "old", computer, ie there is no option to nominate the second Xp computer as the "New" computer to which I wish to transfer data.

Yes, you can use the Easy Transfer Cable to go from XP to XP, but you need different software.
