I have around $150 to spend on a cpu and motherboard

Would like to stick with AMD on the CPU and it needs to come with a heatsink

Mobo would prefer ASUS.......and don't care about onboard gpu or anything like that

Gonna be used in a casual gaming set up

Have been looking at a 2.8 Athlon X2....

Any ideas???

Thanks

$150 isn't enough for a 720 let alone a 720 and mobo.

save up another $150 and then go for a P2 710 if you have an am2+ mobo, 4GB of 800mhz or above if your mobo supports it since OCZ Reaper's are pretty cheap at the moment, and then a 4670.

Or just get a 4830 and the best heatsink you can buy with the money left over.

ok.........my current rig got damaged by a shipping company........the processor pins were bent and some pins were left in the mobo socket.........so I'm getting insurance money and all I need is a cpu and mobo

1. It will be difficult to get very much in the way of new parts. I think in terms of Intel and the E5200 is $73 at newegg right now. You might be able to find an acceptable mobo for what is left.

2. You might want to look around for someone wanting to upgrade and buy their old stuff.

3. Frys runs frequent ads for cpu+mobo combinations. Newegg does sometimes too but I don't know how frequently.
