Hey guys,

Im in the middle of building a PC, I have the following parts already:

Intel E8400 cpu
nvidia 9600gt
500GB HDD
Tagan 600w PSU
+ Optical drives/case

I am only missing ram and a motherboard, and I have to admit the money I have left is pretty low :p
Im not looking for something too extravagant, but nothing that will outdate in a couple of months ethier (if there is such a thing :P), anyway Im sticking with XP 32 bit so I guess its useless to go above 3GBs of memory (I have 2x512 800mhz ddr2 sticks). Any MB/ram recommendations much appreicated. I mainly use my PC for editing movies and gaming, not extemely powerhungry games tho, lesser ones.

Thanks :D

Thanks for the reply :D

My old motherboard that burnt out (I think because of my intel 840 ee processor) was an EP35-DS3L, so I'm not sure whether it is worth it going down that route again with the e8400, especially since it requires a bios upgrade to work, and I'm too hesitant to use my old processor with the new motherboard in case it burns out again during the bios upgrade xD. Ill check out the first two you posted, although they look a tad too expensive ^^ ( £120 left for MB + ram).

As for the ram, would it be worth it buying a slightly cheaper 2x1gb or 1*2gb, and using it with my current 2x512gb sticks? For a total of 3gb, which is what windows is limited to anyway.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with the Gigabyte P45s. Also, get a 2 x 1 GB DDR2 800 C5 or C4 from any vendor (preferably what you have now)- GSkill, Patriot, Corsair, Kingston, Crucial Ballistix, Mushkin etc. They're all great. I say 2 x1 instead of 1 x 2 because you'd want to run them in dual channel.

I have 2 x 2 GB DDR2 800 on Vista 32-bit. I have only 2 DIMM slots and hence would have to go for 2 GB or 4 GB. Vista recognizes 3.25 GB of RAM. Microsoft has said that even though their x86s display around 3.2, they still make full use of the 4 GB. I don't know how far this is true.

Can I just ask what the difference is between the EP45-DS3L and EP45-UD3L? The only thing I could get out of the website is a very minor memory speed difference, and the DS3L being a bit less compatible with some CPUs.

Also I see both of them are compatible with my CPU with bios versions F2 and F4, are they shipped with those bios versions? Since they are the minimum for compatibility with any CPU from what I can see.
