Hi folks, I'm looking for some advice on some components for a new system build. I've always built my own machines, but it's been a while since my last one, and I haven't really kept up to date on the technology. I am a heavy PC user of mostly mainstream business apps who wants a fast system with the latest technology, but I am not a gamer so I have no need for SLI and high-end 3D video cards. I do a lot of multi-tasking though as well as working with really large data sets and a lot of torrent downloads and multimedia, so I need a machine with very fast IO.
I've basically decided on a WD Velociraptor 300GB boot drive and a 1TB WD Caviar Black edition data drive. I now need to decide on a good mobo and processor. I'm partial to Asus and am willing to spend a premium to get a high quality board. As far as processor goes, I want something that's in the current sweet spot of the performance curve. I'd like to spend around $250 or so and am willing to go Intel or AMD--whatever gets me more for my money. Overclocking is not a big concern, but having the option to do so if I choose to is always nice.
The other things I will need is a good quality quiet case and power supply and 2-4GB of RAM.
Any recommendations on parts for the above setup?
Thanks,
Jonathan
