I waited to help at least one person before begging for build help, making me perhaps 1% better than the average noob. ;)

I have been doing my research for days but the pressure of Black Friday opportunities missed means I could really use a few specific questions answered.

Budget: $1000

Goal: Smooth MMO play for the next 4 years

Future upgrades: Crossfire

I used Proximan's build list as a starting point:

case Lian Li PC-7B - $69.99

mobo ASUS P5Q Pro $114.99

cpu Intel E8400 - $159.99

gpu Sapphire 4850 - $149.99

psu Corsair 650TX - $99.99

ram G Skill DDR2 1000 - 44.99

hdd WD Caviar SE16 320 GB - $54.99

monitor Asus 22" 2ms - $199.99

Xigmatek CPU cooler & bracket $40.48

Total = $935.40 before rebates

Are there any serious conflicts with this build?

Is it true this mobo could be a bottleneck w/Crossfire?

Is the PSU up to the task of Crossfire with a 2nd 4850?

Is that Lian Li case just terrible and no justification for just going with the Antec 300?

What would I be giving up/compromising by going with this gpu w/hdmi output over the one I listed?

I'm eternally grateful for any questions answered.

Build looks solid but consider the following:

Get a Antec 900 today for $60!

Consider the SCEPTRE X24WG-1080P Black 24" 2ms, its also $199.99 after a $40 MIR

Switch to ASUS EAH4850 TOP/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB. Sapphire's service sucks and they are notorious for not honoring their rebates.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did take a look at that Sceptre but 24" is overkill for me.

However kennmatech linked this sexy Dell and I'm seriously considering it. My 1800FP monitor is the only thing I like about my Dell, after 5 years of heavy use it's just now dying.

I have been concerned about Sapphire's rep, even though I was happy with my 9800 Pro from them. I believe I'll take your advice on that. Thanks again.

For the price, its hardly overkill. Just enjoy the extra viewing area.

The Lian Li case will cost $30 more than the Antec 900 due to shipping costs.

Good luck with your build!

I thought extra res/area meant more power concerns, gpu heat, etc. Did I misread somewhere or can I have my cake and eat it too? lol

Thanks for the luck, I'm experiencing first-timer anxiety over this build.

It will only stress your GPU only if you run it at the higher resolution . Instead of the 1920x1200 resolution, you can always run 1680x1050 resolution without any problems.

If you ever upgrade your card later on, you could always up to 1920x1200 :P

So yes, you can have cake and eat it too.

I agree the HD4850 loses after 1050, as does the 9800xx apart from GX2 don't mean to say that it can't through, but you will need the sapphire HD4850 toxic 1Gb. saying that through at that resalution you would be on the baoreder line of needing the 1Gb HD4870, or you could go with the GTX260 which is performing better than the HD4870 at the moment due to good drivers. (if you wanna pay the price that is)

if you wanna crossfire and get the best out of your cards, you might wanna consider a X48 motherboard, okay you may only lose 5-15 FPS with a 8x/8x xfire but in crysis that is alot already :o and rember a game like crysis is biased agisnt AMD annoyinly >_>

as for sapphires services, just use the e-commerces serivces :P than no problem with that.
