What I have personally noticed is that after I loaded automatic updates, the standby function screen saver recovery did not work correctly anymore...
I fixed it in one of two ways:
A. I turned off the screen saver function and standby, hibernate. I left the monitor standby turned on. This seemed to work around the problem.
B. I repaired the operating system. This wipes all the updates. I turned all the updates off permanently. I use a professional all in one security solution instead of microsoft updates. (not a free download)
This works with no problem at all, and I prefer this method. No more surprise changes to the operating system and settings.
The directions to repair the OS are posted in this forum, sixth post from the top. This does not erase your personal files...
But DO backup all your personal files to a thumb drive, DVD, etc...before starting any repair, as a precaution.
I would discourage the use of any free downloads that claim to fix or repair your computer, these could make a problem worse.
