looking for something that will give me the best performance, I am thinking of getting a Phenom II X3 710 @ 2.6 ghz(plan on overclocking to at least 3 hopefully) or a Athlon X2 6000+ 3.1 GHZ.

for performance in games which would be the better buy?

If you can spare the extra $30, get the Phenom II X3 720 BE, the unlocked multiplier will make it easier to OC, and you can get it higher than 3 stable.

I have a Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3.33Ghz, and I would consider the Phenom II X3 a big upgrade ! im considring buying one my self.

The BE is the way to go if you can afford it, worth it for the fun of overclocking it.
