Just recently purchased i7 920 with asus p6t and 3x1gb of kingston hyperX DDR3-1600
just wondering, even with speedstep enabled, it doesn't drop the speed of the processor to 133x12=1596MHz, it keep stuck at 133x20=2666MHz

is it like this or is my mobo or cpu problem ?
i might get a bios updated
now using v202

Could be a mobo problem. Or your CPU could be under load all the time. Try a BIOS update. Sometimes things just don't work out of the box like they should.

my cpu is idle all the time when i looked at it around 0~1%
but i noticed something
whenever is idle, even the speed is 2.66GHz, the voltage will drop from 1.2v to 1.06v
and the amp will drop from 130a full to 27.5a

i think i need a format, cause when i change the mobo and cpu, i didn't do a reformat

Your lucky it runs at all. You might want to format.

What are you using to check your cpu speed? It might just be reporting the maximum cpu speed. Try cpu z if you haven't already.

What OS are you using? Check the power settings in your OS. It may be set for high performance or not to scale the processor speed back.

I'm using CPU-Z 1.50
and using Xp32bit Sp3
Now i'm using always on setting on power section
but before i upgrade I was using the same setting as well, and the speedstep works fine

hehe when i upgrade, i removed all motherboard drivers and set it back to standard controllers, deleted every registry that have connections with my mobo, that's why it's still working without format

I'll try the power section then i will post the result

Weird my last specs was
E7200@3.43GHz
Asus P5N-D
2X1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
my power setting was Always on but the speedstep will kick in whenever it's idle

Now i'm using Max battery setting
and the speedstep kicks in whenever is idle
thanks for reminding me that power section haha totally forgot about it already

Umm...yea, reformat.

You went from a Nvidia chipset to a Intel chipset without reformating, not only that you went from a chipset that has a memory controler to a chipset that has NO memory controler. Not to mention the different PCI lane design. I mean I can go on all day, youre lucky the system even boots.

Lol thanks guys, i will do a reformat soon, didn't format like 7 months already
but things are working fine now after i set it to Max battery setting
but as far as i concern, i tried few times switching chipsets without reformatting, what i did was remove all the drivers, set those drivers back to standard controllers, remove registry then swap the HDD then boot
it works for me for a few times

Well on mine cpu-z always shows me at 21x and only real temp shows the multi dropping while idle even tho it almost never hits 12x it does vary quite a bit below 21.

Cpu-z does show my voltage drop tho from 1.31 load to 1.15 idle.

Also a few programs show a cpu speed with 20x even tho it is at 21.

I guess I'm just anal. ...but if there's anything funky going on with on of my builds I give it a little bit of love and if that's not enough...reformate and reload...might takes hours but perfection is perfection.

hehehe, i love my rig so much
yea it goes same to me too, but if i can fix it without reformatting, it would be better than going through the fuss right ?
I can't reformatting right now cause i got few games that i'm playing that i don't have the DVD with me now, borrowed to friend hehe
anyway, the max battery setting makes thing right for me
the speedstep is now functioning
