Hi.
well, I'm having a tough time with this problem,
can't fix my internet conection,I have a generic
pc w/ winxp home, with SP3. i'm connected to comcast high
speed, connected cable modem to pc, I don't use
a router or wi-fi. worked fine until I rebooted
I get this error "this connection has limited or
no connectivity" tried to repair with widows, it
tells me that it can't renew my ip address, I know
my modem works, because I'm using it on my laptop
right now, so it must be in my pc.

cpu-pent 4 1.6ghz
ram 1g
on reserching many post, I've tried:
1)reset modem by unpluging for a few min
2)checked all connections
3)checked device mgr, no problems
4)ipconfig release and renew, didn't renew
5)loopback 127.0.0.1 loopback worked
6)flushed dns cache, successfull
7)winsock fix didn't help
8)winsock reset (I think)
9)ipconfig /all autoconfig ip address and default gateway 169.254.130.149
10)disabled firewall/antivirus
all of the above (not neccesarilly in that order)
also event id errors 17,29

I see that you power cycled the modem, did you do that while your computer was shut down? and did you try to reset the modem? There should be a little hole in the back of the modem to reset it, just hold it in for about 10 seconds. also I don't see that you checked for and deleted any old dial up connections. Go to internet options and click the connections tab and remove anything in that box there, then click on LAN settings and make sure nothing is checked in there! Just a thought, have you tried pinging anything?
