For a long time now I have had my main drive(160 gbSeagate Barracuda 7200.7 IDE) and a backup drive(320gb Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0). I decided the other day that I was going to make the backup my main as it is faster. I go to turn my computer on today and it wont boot. The fans turn on for about a sec as do the led's then it shuts down. I go to turn it on again and nothing, the fans dont move, the leds dont come on....nothing. after messing with it i have figured out that the only way the computer will work is if i disconnect the 7200.10 drive. I have 2 dvd burners and whether i have those connected both, none or one....the only way the computer comes on is if the 7200.10 drive is not connected. I have tried different cables and the only issue is that hd.
Is it safe to say that hd died?
AMD 64x2 dual 5600+
3.25gb ram(really 6 but xp only sees 3.25)
windows xp pro 32bit
Pioneer 112D and 212D
asus m2n plus nforce 500
antec 650w power supply
If the Pioneer 212D works well, then your SATA controller is fine. You also tried different cables, therefore only the hard disk can be the issue. Can you test it in another system?
