Dell vostro 400 manual

Dell vostros 400 windows xp bought 2008. when turn on computer, sometimes boots normally. Others screen black, then shades of grey, then bands of color, doesn't show set up or boot menu opportunities. eventually--so far--goes to first windows screen. Is this hardware or software? Anyone got a fix?

Sounds like intermittent video problems, is it an all-in-one MB or dedicated video ?
If it fails to load windows, I would do a clean re-install, remove and recreate partition(s).

It is an all-in-one mother board. I reinstalled the video driver off the dell website a month ago. I think I can reinstall windows XP off the dell website. Thank you very much for lending your expertise. Ron
