Hi, I was wondering how loud the stock fan on the Phenom 2 X4 940 is. I want to replace my 65 watt Athlon x2 with this, but I don't want to increase the noise too much.

Anyone care to share their experience going from an X2 to the high watt X4s or similar?

Not loud at all, it is the best stock HS AMD has provided so far. I am still debating on buying an aftermarket HS even though i stay at 39C idle, 50C heaving gaming.

I upgraded from AMD64 3000+ to PII 940. I don't notice any different in noise at all(fyi, my old system was pretty quite).

Initially I was gonna get a high end heatsink, but after I overclocked to 3.5ghz on everything else at default (only multiplier increased) - stock cpu heatsink still running low temperature, I decided to keep it.

I've built 2 940 Phenom systems with stock cooling. Very quiet and cool. Both are slightly undervolted at 3.4GHz which may help a little, but no complaints. I'd like to get an aftermarket HSF someday, but haven't had to as of yet. Happy at 3.4 without messing with it alot.

I just bought a Phenom2 X4 955, and am very discontent with the stock cooler. Even when PC is about idle at 38 degrees celcius it blows with ~5300 rpm, making a horrible noise. To me this is the worst stock cooler ever as i have never had an amd stock cooler that made so much noise round 5000 rpm. I'm also completely black why it spins so fast when the CPU is only 38 deg C. Maybe this is a bios bug, have to find that out yet. Any suggestions are welcome.
