Hello,
I lost a core on my i7-860 processor. It has been overclocked for a few weeks at 3.8Ghz and passing 8 hour Prime95 torture test. Load temp would hit 78 degrees top.
Today I decided to push proc a littler further and put it at 4ghz. On loop 3 of Prime95 I got a failure error on a core and the temp hit 85 degrees.
I rebooted and put back to 3.8ghz and now prime 95 and various other utilities say I only have 3 CORE PROCESSOR!
What happened? I thought the newer procs were supposed to slow/shut themselves off or blue screen/lock up when the limits are pushed as they have for me in the past.
None of this happened this time, just an error in prime95.
Did I fry a core? Is there any hope for me?
Thanks.
