Hello,

Okay, so overclocking via the BIOS and all was going well until I hit the invisible 2.9GHz barricade that I was not aware of. I am running an Athlon II X4 620 (stock 2.6GHz). I currenty have it running at 2.9GHz @ 1.296 vCore.

However, when I bump voltages say to 1.35 or so, and then try to readjust the reference clock to make 3.0Ghz, F10 shuts me down and I have to use the reset button because its stuck at the black screen and wont boot.

So being a novice OCer (today is my first day), what are your suggestions. Is it something to do with my Hyper Transports? North Bridge? Should my volts be higher? I have seen people at 3.2GHz with vCores the same as mine at 2.9GHz (1.296)

So I might sound intelligent here but I have no idea what I am doing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

So I heard lowering the FSB : DRAM ratio is good for overclocking? Currently I have my BIOS at 667Mhz on the RAM (CPU-Z says 720MHz? Why?), and HT Link is on 10x which I guess equals 2000MHz. So, should I lower one or increase one? Any ideas? Running at only 2.8GHz right now. I have not a clue what I am doing.

Thanks.

at what speed is your ht link(hyper transport)running?also what system bus speed are you trying to push?like the cpu the ht link speed is also a multiple of the system bus.this may be your prob.if the ht is overclocked to far it can cause a no post.try to lower the ht multiplyer in the bios eg.(from 5* to 4* system bus speed) this may be your bottleneck

Yeah.

Like your CPU is a locket multiplier processor, the you increase the HT link of the CPU, also increase the speed of your RAM, don't care is you select 667 in the BIOS, because both are connected. That's why I post the link to OC locked AMD processors like yours, because is a little more dificult.

Okay thanks. Working on it.

Well my HT link is on Auto but I think that means its on 10.0x which is too high I suppose?! So I should lower the HT Multiplier and then increase the RAM speed to 800MHz. My RAM is only DDR3 1333 so it wants to run at 677...does this matter?

Well, I am going to re read the AMD overclocking link you sent me. Thanks everyone.

10.0X HT Link.

Does anyone have a guide describing what things in the BIOS mean for a recent AMD chip. I think I know what they mean, but I am not sure how they are related and whatnot?

Thanks.
