Since Hard Drives are sealed, is there any problem with letting the hard drive sit outside the computer box, in the open air?

Solution
No, as long as it's protected from things being spilled on it, dropped on it, etc. Excessive dust build up, contact with the circuit board, things like that could be issues. But having it in the open air should be fine.

Inside the PC, it has air flowing over it, so it's not like it's sealed away somewhere.
