Hello,

I am waiting for the new SSD. I need to enable ACHI mode to take full performance out of SSD. But, the quesiton is how?

Can i simply enable it in the bios and do nothing else?
Do i need to install drivers during Windows 7 installation by pressing F6?

Do i need to do both?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

Set the controller mode to AHCI in the BIOS before you start to install Windows on the SSD. The Windows installation program will auto-detect the chipset and the mode it's running in and select the appropriate drivers.

It's as easy as pie!

I can't speak for all SSDs but I have 2 OCZ Vertex LE's and the only way to update the firmware on them is in AHCI mode. Have to install Windows 7 in that mode as well. I learned the hard way by setting up RAID 0 and installing Windows first =/

What about cloning windows 7 onto a new SSD? If I set it to AHCI, and load an image from backup, will it still recognize and install the AHCI drivers, even tho the image was from an IDE mode drive?
