Hey all,
I have a Gigabyte 965P DS3. I was wondering what I could use my government return on and I was thinking about an upgrade from my Core2Duo E6600. I was looking at getting a quad core processor, especially with Empire Total War coming out soon. I was looking at the Core2Quad Q9550. On Gigabyte's site it says that this processor has "non-official support". Do you guys think it will work or should I try an older quad core?

Thanks

Do you know which board revision you have, the Gigabyte website have 3 different one: 1.0, 2.0 and 3.3. The first 2 don't support the Q9550 at all and the last one, as you said, is "unofficial support".

As an alternative, you could always get the Q6600 (supported by every revision of the board) which is ~80$ less than the Q9550, get a good cooler (30-40$, if you don't already have one) and OC it to 3GHz (which most people seem to reach easily.

rev 3 might support the q9xxx series, you'd have to check gigabyte's site.
I have a ds3 rev 1 and it won't do anything above a 1333mhz fsb.
If you look at the bottom of the motherboard by the last pci slot, there should be the Rev number that you need.
