I have looked @ many thread and seem to find conflicting opinions on the difference between the E2XXX, E4XXX & E6XXX, so I'm hoping that giving my exact circumstance will help you guys give me the best advise on the web!! :wahoo: :wahoo:

My rig;
ASROCK 4Core1600Twins-P35(D) not sure if it's a D
Kingston 4GB PC2-6400 HyperX (2x2GB)
PowerColor HD4850 512 DDR4
SATAII 250Gb HDD (not sure which)
XP & W7

I am currently running a P4 650 OC'd but I believe it is still seriously hampering my system and need to replace BUT...

I have no cash at the moment but I do have £50 worth of vouchers for a 2nd Hand Centre which gives 12month Warranties on components. So my options are;
Dual Core E2220 (2.4Ghz)
Core2Duo E6320 (1.86Ghz)
Core2Duo E4500 (2.2Ghz)
They are all £40, I have an Artic Cooler 7 and am not afraid of a moderate OC. :whistle: :whistle: :whistle:

I game. Oblivion, Fallout3 (although I've just finished it!!), NWN2, Diablo3 (I WISH :lol: :lol: ), The Witcher. Do some encoding and some VB developing but not enuff to impact on my decision.

Which one do you think?????

E6320 If it will work in the mobo - has more cache.

Cache is king on a moderate overclock- your RAM is up to the task if the mobo is !!

E6320 = 1.86Ghz ... 7 X 266 (1066FSB) 4Mb cache
E4500 = 2.2Ghz ... 11 X 200 (800FSB) 2Mb cache
E2200 = 2.2Ghz ... 11 X 200 (200FSB) 1Mb cache

Now the E4500 / E2200 will be easier to OC due to the lower FSB (given the mobo constraints and having less cache).

Check your mobo will handle overclocking beyond 1066 (266 actual).

If so I would get the E6 ... pushing it up to 333 gives you 2.3Ghz ... beyond that might get harder.

But the E4500 looks more appealing due to the lower FSB.

Pushing the E4500 will be simple - your starting on a 200FSB to start with - moving it to 266 on bootup with a little or no voltage should be easy.

or so gives you 2.93Ghz ... I imagine half the cache with a core running at close to 3Ghz will bury the E6320 at 2.3Ghz.

Plus you might be able to push it further ... 11 X 333 = 3.6 ... unlikely.


Check what others have done first.

But I am no expert so I suggest you surf through the older threads for a look.

I have never seen it explained so concisely!

E6320 = 1.86Ghz ... 7 X 266 (1066FSB) 4Mb cache

E2200 = 2.2Ghz ... 11 X 200 (200FSB) 1Mb cache

My mobo will support upto 1600 (although I need to adjust a jumper for that! :( ). I will support 1333 from the bios. My concern has been my RAM which is only rated @ 800Mhz although it is Kingston HyperX.

I was worried that OC'ing the 6320 would be more difficult & limited because of the fact that the FSB is already higher.

Also would it be reasonable to think that a 4700 would OC higher than a 4500 because it clocks higher on the same FSB.
