3850 is the fastest made for AGP. You will also need at min a 400 watt power supply

This one is a little slower

A better choice might be this, and good for a smaller power supply

What cpu do you have because most AGP motherboard doesn support decent cpus to a feed a 3850.

@PERSHING121; The AGP question, at least all PCI-E cards are instantly interchangable.
PASE, tell us what your system specs are, particularly the power supply and motherboard.
And beware the HD3850, we`re still seeing problems with those here.

i had been thinking this one, the Sapphire.

but, it sounds like a lot of people are having driver problems
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102730

that's odd, the 3850 has been out for 2 years, AGP has been around forever. it makes me wonder if there's some built-in flaw, so that it's logical that, for example, the drivers for COD4 aren't ready for prime-time, as some of the reviews note.

i guess the Sapphire is a good card, except for driver problems with some video games.

i would not want a video card that has driver problems

Well it will be CPU limited, but the biggest issue up front is your memory, you need 2GB for most current games to be their smothest.

The HD3850 will let you do things like increase the shader quality or the levels of AA, but you may find that in games like Crysis and FartCry2 that you are limited by the CPU where even low resolutions won't improve performance much and so be it DX9 medium or DX10 very high you're running @ single digit fps performance.

When you find that mythical card you let us know.

All card have driver issues, but right now you're running up against the age of your system, ALL old cards are abandoned by the IHVs and now have issues with newer games so regardless of whether you pick an X1600 or GF7600 instead of an HD3850, you're going to encounter problems.

The 3850, 3650, 2600... are not offically supported by ATI in the AGP sockets. That is why the driver support is lacking. The last offically supported ATI AGP was the X1K Series. The X1650Pro (ATI) or 7600 GT (Nvidia)would probably be your best bet if you dont want to take a chance on poor driver support. Nvidia also stop offically supporting AGP after the 7600 cards.

Power supply? What do you have? Watts? 12 volt rail/rails?

I have the 3850 AGP (Powercolor) on one of my systems and so far it has worked well. I knew when I bought it there might be minor driver problems, but I was willing to take a chance. I also knew it was a little overkill for the system. It has played the following fine.

Call of Duty World at War, Spore, Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half Life 2, Quake Wars. All on 1680 x 1050 Resolution at medium settings.

As far as driver issues and memory (get 2 GB) I do agree with TheGreatGrapeApe "When you find that mythical card you let us know." I've had a dozen video cards over the years and some were excellent (8800 GT, 6800 GT) and others (5600 LE) I wanted to throw at a wall.

I assume your talking about the power supply. Open the case up and look at the sticker on the side of the power supply. It will give you all the information.
