hey guys,

i am building a new i7 system . last build was from the AMD athlon days so I guess I am a bit outdated. As I review the x58 motherboards I have come to the realization that ALL x58 mobos have 2 Pci slots (yes the old ones). In my current build i have already maxed out the two slots (tv tuner and wifi card) and I think I need another card for future proofing the system. I am a ham radio operator and may end up using another pci card to add a ham rig to my system

Any advice for a noob who wants an extra pci slot? I know that pci express and pci are not compatible. I have 2 extra pci express slots on the asus p6t mobo.

I am also contemplating going with the older core 2 architecture with a mobo which has on-board wifi. Any thoughts/recommendations would be very helpful.

The i7 is actually $100 cheaper than the q9550s so paying more for a older architecture dosent make too much sense either...

Thanks in advance for your help

Just buy a usb wireless adapter and replace the pci one to free up a slot if you need it.
