Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.0ghz
Corsair 2x 2GB XMS2-6400 800MHz
Sapphire 1GB Radeon HD 4870
OCZ GameXstream 700w PSU

I have absolutely no clue what all these mean. To my knowledge, all drivers have been updated. For each hardware I went to their website and downloaded the latest drivers. ANY help is greatly appreciated....

On a side note, my previous computer was shorted out and the motherboard fried with the harddrive.... not sure what else was affected, but the only things that i carried over was the case fans, DVD Burner and the floppy drive.... At the moment, no hardware is being utilized due to paranoia that something bad might happen =|

Well, with your problem I'm not sure if testing one stick at once will solve anything. Try it anyways, though. If it still doesn't work, i would take it to your favorite comp store and have them check it out.

i shall do that.....

on a side note... with the old computer getting short circuited/fried. would that have any effect on the case fans or cathode kits or the DVD rom?

If the ram is bad, it shouldn't do any damage to the other parts.
As for your old comp, im not really sure. Sometimes old parts, especially psu's, will take out other parts when they die. In most cases, i dont think that those parts will be damaged.

i'll test the RAMs right now and post an update

I have the same processor and the same RAM, and my RAM was defective the first time i got it, so hope you can solve your problem. I know how frustrating it must be...

results:::

RAM #1 booted successfully. Fully logged into windows, about 3 minutes later, reboot. no blue screen no nothing, just a hard reboot

RAM #2 right as the XP Logo loads (slow fade) during the Win XP load screen it freezes... waited a while and nothing was happening. Restarted and now im here....

Well, its starting to sound like a mb problem to me now. If i were u, i would go to a good reliable comp store and have the technicians take a look at it.

Well, i go to micro center for all my computer needs. I paid 85 bucks for a diagnostic/fix, which means that by the time you get it back, it is 100% working. The funny thing is, they charged me nothing when i got it back. Prolly cuz they sold me bad RAM in the first place and replaced it for free, along with changing a few things around for free too.

Oh, and one more question. Did you change anything in BIOS or overclock it at all? If so, you should go to BIOS and change them to default.

first, check this page out:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1003&eventno=1274&source=System&phase=1

Sounds like bad ram, IMO. Look into a program called memtest86. It will let you check your ram without loading into windows.

Its possible that your ram settings are not valid in the BIOS, have you checked these? Could be that they are not the right speed, or the timings are not compatible with your system.

Also, could be bad sectors on the HDD. Sometimes the pagefile sits on bad sectors, I have seen reboots because of this.

Good luck.

Very good advice, festerovic. I would definitely try those things before declaring it hopeless and having it fixed.

BIOS has been updated and nothing has been changed. They are currently set to default and I keep getting CPU Fan Error ( another problem, but i know how to fix that)

Secondly, I had just finished a Disk Defrag yesterday, as far as the results turned out, there were no bad sectors...

Going to turn off the comp and plug in the floppy drive... and run the memtest86..... What should i be looking/expecting for when i run that program?

Just keep it on for some time and if an error should appear, it would show up at the bottom of the screen. Don't worry about the passing and percentages; just look for errors. Btw, the technician at the store told me that they use diff tests for memory cuz they use corporate procedures. That's why my memtest couldn't detect i had bad RAM

The disk defrag may not tell you ab out bad sectors.

Also, I agree with Chrono about the overheating. Not to suggest you are n00bish, but was the heatsink and paste applied correctly?

Also, regarding your BIOS, default may not be ideal. You may have to manually set some settings. Is this the first time this particular mobo is being used by you? I say that because if you had no problems with your old hardware and default settings (on the fried board), it may have been ok. Now its in a new system, it may need some tweaking.

To use memtest the most effective way, do 1 memory chip at a time, and let it complete an entire pass. Make sure all the tests are selected.

dude.. how long does he mem teest take.... i did one.... and left it on since my last post

its not a heating problem... the heatsink and pastes are applied coorrectly..... ive check the temperatures in the bios.. all is cool........
