I can't switch to 1280x1024 anymore. Not in games, not through custom resolutions (it tells me that the test failed when it tests to see if the resolution works), not anywhere. I removed the drivers and then I could switch to 1280x1024 easily (but without nVidia drivers). I'm using Vista x64 and this problem began right after I installed 3dmark Vantage and it had to install its own DirectX thing, after which it informed me that it couldn't switch to 1280x1024 so I wasn't even able to use Vantage!
Please help!
I'm using a BenQ FP241w, with a 1920x1200 native resolution but I need the 1280x1024 resolution for benchmarking purposes and some older games I play can only go as high as that. My graphics card is an 8800GTX.

Not a great solution but just leave it at 1281x1024.
I know it sounds dumb but if it works...
You will never notice 1 more row of dots.
I accidentally set mine to 1440x900 and never noticed the extra 40 rows.
Generally you should try for the native resolution of your monitor as it helps
with performance a little by sending info 1:1 and not having to scale the image.
Also try powerstip, it'll let you tweak the profiles to the nth degree.
Also did you check in the display attributes and double check if something changed (like the option to no display unsupported resolutions)?
