We'll start here, then I'll give you some alternate suggestions:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] rts-choose

CPU cooler:
Sunbeam Core Contact

Why:
http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm
... and because it's fairly easy for a novice to install. If you want a better solution, number 2 on the list actually bolts into place, but you will need to buy your own thermal material (paste).

PSU:

Antec EA650
It may be ugly but it won't blow up. This is a quality unit that should cost more.
Review: jonnyguru
If you take the time to read this review you will learn what a good PSU does.

PC P&C 610W
An even finer unit than the EA650. Looks better too. Fantastic price after rebate, great price without rebate.

If you are really hooked on the Xclio, it's OK. In the end, the Antec Nine Hundred will cool better and be easier to work in:

Use promo code "EMCBCAECE" for an additional $5 off the ram.

I would take Proximon's advice and get the Sunbeam cooler, Antec 900, and the PC P&C 610w PSU.

I would also recommend going with Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB

If the build is primarily for gaming, consider the E8400

wow thanks guys for the tips. this site rocks. My cooler and mobo are a combo so I'm saving some money. Same with my psu and mobo. While I'd like to upgrade to these parts im really at my $$ limit. I guess my question is will my rig fire up and run efficiently without exploding on me haha. Also My choice in the quad core is in part a futureproofing measure. thanks so much for your quick replies!

What is your budget? I might be able to find you better deal without sacrificing in the PSU department.

Quad core is the future, also in gaming. Just look at the gta 4 benchmarks.

$133 shipped - Q6600
$84.50 shipped - Gigabyte UD3P
$257 shipped - Nvidia GTX 280
$120 shipped - 9800gtx+
$160 shipped - gtx 260
$185 shipped - gtx 260 core 216
$330 shipped - 4870x2
$185 shipped - 4870 1gb

Wrong, microsoft/ebay had a 40% cashback thing going on, there is still a 15%. It varys from 15-30% regularly.

DDR2 800 4gigs of corsair can be had for 24 dollars was 19dollars off newegg :) after rebate. Switch those if you wish.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145184
Corsair also has 750w psu for that was 49.99, which was a nice deal/psu. I believe its back up to 100 tho.

Newegg seems to change other items that go well with other items so you never get too good of a deal at once, but good deals can be had if you buy peice by peice.
Pricing stuff over about a month period works best.
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 is a excellent heatsink for the money.
If you do the cashback thru ebay with paypal and save 15-30% you MIGHT be able to get a even get a 4870x2 ..(dont get nvidia cards if your going with that mobo as you wont be able to have more then one if you want sli later)

IMO, whatever you take from all this, I hope it is that you SHOULD NOT GET A ROSEWILL PSU.

Check out any PSU tier reference, and you'll see Rosewill as one of the lowest quality PSUs. Things like PC P&C, Antec TruePower, Corsair, and he like are all excellent PSUs to go for. Here is an example of a tier list:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=108088

"Tier 5 - Other than the units listed above for any of these brands, NOT RECOMMENDED"

PSU is not a place you want to try to shave excessive cash in.

Slomo's build is excellent. Minor tweaks, entirely optional, but might save some money without sacrificing performance:

GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128347
Unless you're sure you'll want Crossfire, as this board only has one PCIE X16 slot but is $45 cheaper for the same quality otherwise.

You'd be giving up a lot of space, but if you really don't need it, you can save another $20 getting a smaller drive, like this WD 320GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 822136074.

You won't need the AS5 with that cooler; save another $6.

That's an outstanding case (I really like mine), but if only to make budget, a $27-$35 Rosewill case would offer sufficient cooling. Otherwise stick with the one he linked.

Not a tweak, I second (or is it 3rd, 4th, etc...) the Antec EA650. That is an incredible price for a good PSU. Some of the Rosewill PSUs are better now (at least one passing all the tests at jonnyguru), but they won't compare to Antec.

Don't count on rebates; I hate that game, and you may not win: http://blog.slickdeals.net/index.p [...] -affected. Newegg uses them.

thanks I'm going with slomo's recommends all except the case. I know thats its probably the better case but, I really like the XCLIO one I found. Fingers crossed..hope this all works out

Reply to Mike12ophone

:) you will get better gaming as well around the same price point due to the upgrade to the 1gb version over the 512mb version.

XCLIO A380PLUS-BK is my personal favorite case from XCLIO. Its $5 cheaper than the one you choose :P
