I am planning to get a 64G Intel X25-E SSD. Do I need a controller for it? Which one should I get without spending a ton of money? The SSD is already going to burn a big hole in my pocket.

No controller is required. Just plug the SSD into one of your open SATA ports on your motherboard.

Also, have you verified the X25-E SLC will support TRIM and why not get a newer, cheaper MLC SSD like the OCZ Vertex 2??
