I am trying to replace the CPU in a 423 pin socket. Even after raising the release lever (it raised to ~45 deg), the CPU has not released and is not loose in the socket. Any suggestions?

IIRC, the release lever should go up closer to 90 degrees. Assuming it's been in there a while, you may have to gently pry it up a bit to get it out.

Mondoman, that was the info I needed. And it took slightly more than a gentle pry. Many thanks.
