Can anyone tell me why my old Dell E171fpb Active Tft monitor does not change color from side viewing angles where as my new Dell 2009w TN monitor turns whites into yellows when viewing from side angles?
Because your old monitor is better... There are various types of panels, and the viewing angles differ. The best panels are S-PVA and they cost a lot and the viewing angles are 178 degrees. The typical TN panel will have a 160 degree angle, i.e. you can't really watch it properly from the side. Bottom line, your new monitor is not defect, it's just cheap and you get what you paid for. I have an LG and a Samsung myself and have the same problem. The LG is a little better IMO, but not by much.

The best panels are IPS panels. While S-PVA and P-MVA also claim 178 degrees viewing angles; monitors with IPS panels leave them in the dust, just like S-PVA and P-MVA would leave TN panels in the dust.
I recently bought an Asus VK246 monitor which uses a TN panel for limited usage. When compared to my 19" Planar PX191 that I bought back in 2002, there is simply no comparison when it comes to viewing angles. The Planar is clearly superior.
My 26" NEC LCD2690WUXi (which I bought last year) uses an H-IPS panel and it simply blows away my Planar in terms of color / image quality.
Here's my incomplete review of the Asus VK246 24" LCD monitor:
