Looking for 4870 aftermarket cooler

Hi thar,

I just recently bought a 1GB 4870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801&Tpk=sapphire%204870) and quite frankly I'm not getting the same cooling/noise results as most of the reviewers claim. It idles at about 50-55C and goes up to 80C during gameplay and even a bit higher on the memory and this thing gets LOUD at anything above 50% fan speed which it is always at in game.

Sooooo... I was thinking about looking into a different aftermarket cooler. 80C is a bit too hot for my taste and frankly the fan is getting irritating.

Could anyone recommend an effective and if possible quiet cooler? I was looking at the http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr03gt/product_vga_cooler_hr03gt.htm?art=MTQyMywxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== and then adding the quietest 120mm fan I could find.

Thanks :P

  1. you could look at the S1 Accelero from arctic cooling which is a passive heat sink (big) which can be coupled with the turbo fan kit to assist in cooling,

or just go with the twin turbo version which looks slightly smaller and comes fitted with fans.
  2. Have you tried any of these?
  3. personally no, however i am currently considering it myself.
