So I'm still debating between the HD 4870 1GB and the GTX 260+, and I want some suggestions for the mobo I would use for the said card.

I am considering this card for the HD 4870 1GB:

I may even CONSIDER SLI/Crossfire, but I rather have 1 ballin' card over 2 cards, lol.

So should I just get that mobo even if I get the gtx, or is there a better one, which may or maynot support SLI?

I think I rather have the more powerful card--gtx 260 though...what do you guys think is a better buy: hd 4870 512 vs. 1gb, vs. 260 reloaded??!?!?!?!

thanks guys!!

If you'd rather have one better card, than two worse cards, then i wouldn't take crossfire/sli into account. I'd go with a P45 and the 260 personally. The 4870 is a great card, and I was planning on getting one, but now i've seen the physx trailer for mirrors edge, I'd rather have the 260.

You'll be happy with whichever card you get though

if u really want a gtx260core216 but want the option of sli, go with a evga 750i...really solid board with x16/x16 sli.
the price is right too...for me anyways. i spent 400 for a core216+750i ftw combo...canadian too!
if you're in the US u should be getting an even better price i'd imagine, even though that was a special deal.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I have decided to forget about SLI/Crossfire for now. For now, I only want 1 solid card.

I looked at the benchmarks for FPS's--I play these a lot--and it appears that at higher resolutions the gtx 216 is better, but at lower ones the 4870 1gb?

which card do you think is overall better to play at resolutions like 1680, and POSSIBLY 1920 (but most likely 1680) for fps's like call of duty and crysis.

I want one powerful card, and since the price is almost the same, which is a better buy?

thanks guys!!

4870 1gb and core 216 is a tossup.
it's like choosing between two different types of apples, preference prevails.
but ultimately it should depend on which motherboard you're getting.
crossfire -> go for 4870
SLI -> core 216
u don't want to limit yourself to a mismatched pairing
great thing about 4870 is that it requires a much lower PSU, so you can save money there.
if you're planning not buying a i7, p45's overclock with intel better than 780is, and are alot cheaper.
i'd recommend 4870, u can save on other components.

I'm not doing any sli or crossfire.

I'm leaning towards the gtx 260 core 216 again because it seems like it beats the hd 4870 1gb in most games that I play.

so what is a good mobo for that card? will that gigbyte crad I posted in the first post work with this also? is that not a good choice? remember I will NOT sli right now.
