Might help if you give us some more detail regarding the mobo?

Short answer is if you can find a seconhand cpu on e-bay you might get a little more out of the PC but it will likely be a waste of time.

Look at a complete mobo. cpu, and ram upgrade - being a PCI / AGP bus mobo you will also need a graphics card too.

If your only looking for a general purpose PC then consider something like a mobo with a reasonable onboard graphics unit.

AMD make a 780G and you could put a cheap triple core CPU in it ...

Plus you will need a couple of gig of DDR2.

See what combo speacials are out there and good luck.

Um.... I am guessing he is using a very old slot type Pentium III (or AMD equivalent at the time) so I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess no......

Sorry man. But you are in the stone age of PCs. A lot has change. And I mean a lot.

If you are a light user just go on HP or Dell and you will find a good deal on a lower end system. Low end nowadays is still a blazing fast computer. If you don't do video editing/modeling/gaming you will be fine with the cheapest computer you can buy.

If you tell us exactly what you want to do with your computer we can guide you down the best path to building a new one.
