I've decided to upgrade to core i7. I was always a little hesitant to commit to an nvidia chipset to get into SLI, but now that it works on x58 I'm considering the switch to nvidia cards. I'm getting an evga motherboard and theres a pretty good combo deal for evga video cards (it would work out to 2 GTX 260 core 216's for $429.98). Not to mention that I've heard a lot of good things about the company.
From what I've seen, SLI scales pretty well on X58. So my question is:
Would 2 GTX 260's SLI be competitive vs. a 4870x2?
And also looking towards the future, the other factor coming into play is the EVGA step up thing. In a few months I would probably have the money to step up to the new GTX 295's coming out, which would give me a quad SLI setup. Or I could just get another 4870x2
I have a 30" screen, so I'm at 2560x1600 most of the time
But back to the immediate decision I have to make: Should I take advantage of the combo deal at newegg and go for the nvidia cards in addition to my motherboard? Or stick with ATI
for the sake of a couple of weeks, i'd hang-fire to see what the gtx295's capable of. i'm waiting for gpu's for my x58 mobo and i'm in the same situation, hopefully 1 of these 295's should be 2x the performance of my existing 8800gtx sli (i tend to upgrade when technology doubles)
