How exactly are you running 8gb tri-channel? The only way I can think of would be... uhm... I can't think of one actually...

Are you SURE you've got tri-channel RAM and not dual-channel DDR3? Tri-channel tends to be in multiples of 3gb (since you need 3 sticks for tri-channel, and 1gb is the standard capacity)

you have to manually clock the ram at 1366, you should be able to do this through your bios. are you sure you're in triple channel? i only know of 1gig and 2gig sticks and i know neither of those in tripple will get you 8 gigs unless your doing 2gig x 3 and 2gig x 1 in which case i believe your triple channel gets deactivated if i'm correct?

also not many applications are available that make use of the core i7's 8 threads. You will definitely see a performance gain in the future versus your old pc, you made the right choice with i7 but its a big change to introduce 4 more threads to the cpu world, and we'll have to wait for developers to make use of them.
