Music Server

Can anybody advice me on setting up a music server with best sound-card to produce sound worthy of Hi-Fidelity ?

Is this machine going to remote storage like a true server or will it be connected directly to audio playback equipment. If its directly connected to a reciever or speakers with a digital connection, then a digital out (spdif optical or coax) is all that is necessary for bitperfect playback up to 5.1. Now 7.1 audio is a whole different story. If you dont have digital connected audio playback hardware then you will want a good soundard and good computer speakers.
