I've just noticed that the fan on my Asus 4870 is acting up, it runs but despite having a definite fan speed set, it varies.

It becomes very audible at about 30% so it's a real pain.

All the while fan rpm should be set to a fixed 20%.

It seems setting fan control to 'auto' keeps it constant, unfortunately this is 50% and is deafening.

I usually put it at 30% myself, which is very quiet.
Using a HD4850 with a Club3D aftermarket cooler.

You can set fan-speeds in CCC, under "ATi Overdrive", once you unlock it you can manually set the fan speed at 20%, for example. It won't change anymore then.

Nah specifically with this card lots of people have reported problems with the card playing up/dying.
